What are E-Cigs?
Electronic Cigarettes are devices that allow vaporized nicotine to be inhaled without the smoke. Nicotine levels are usually much smaller than a standard cigarette and can be managed and controlled through the E-Cig. E-Cigs can look anything from similar to a plastic cigarette to a ball-point pen. As of the present E-Cigs can be smoked freely in public places.
E-CIgs and SHS
E-Cigs are a growing trend in the Boise area, as thought to be less harmful than actual cigarettes and said to not give off secondhand smoke, however many sources prove that while E-Cigs give off a significantly less amount of SHS, they still allow nicotine particles into the air, and these cigarettes are allowed to be smoked inside public places. Healthland.time.com states, “E-Cigarettes are a source of secondhand exposure to nicotine” (Stifferlin,A). The SHS E-Cigs give off can easily be compared to the scant amount of particles ventilation and air-cleaning systems cannot eliminate from standard cigarettes. Therefore, allowing E-Cigs indoors is just as bad, possibly worse than allowing small particles indirectly into the air through smoking rooms. To establish smoking rooms for all kinds of cigarettes will eliminate the most possible amount of SHS, because eliminating all SHS from the air anywhere in a public place is simply impossible. Although, legalizing indoor public smoking of E-Cigs is directly polluting the indoor air constantly due to the popularity of E-CIgs. They give off very small amounts of SHS, but when they are smoked so constantly, SHS will build up and eventually be just as bad as direct smoke. Not to mention, isn't a little SHS already to much?
